Community Involvement

The attorneys and staff at Brent Gordon are actively involved in organizations and efforts to enrich the communities in which they live. A few of our teams’ community activities are highlighted below.

Volunteering & Beyond

Brent Gordon and Mat Parke won an important supreme court victory in Pena v. Viking Insurance Company that changed the law in Idaho by extending underinsured motorist benefits to customers who purchased coverage for the minimum limits. Their advocacy before the state’s highest court resulted in the court overturning an unfortunate decision that denied minimum underinsured motorist benefits to Idaho consumers for decades.

Jane Gordon

Jane Gordon is a founding member and volunteer of the ITLA Street Law Clinic. The street law clinic provides free legal advice on the spot to disadvantaged members of the Boise community on topics ranging from landlord-tenant issues, family law issues, and employment law to name a few. In addition, Jane is a member and former Board Member of the Idaho Women Lawyers and was selected to receive the IWL Innovator Award for promoting creative change in the legal community.

Parke Gordon

Parke Gordon has taken the lead to advocate for equal opportunity for girls in high school sports in Utah. We filed a Title IX lawsuit that resulted in schools sanctioning and offering girls wrestling and girls competitive cheer. Further, we drafted legislation that was sponsored or co-sponsored by virtually every female legislator in Utah that requires school districts to report their funding, participation, and allocation of facilities by gender.

Brent Gordon

Brent Gordon has coached nearly twenty youth football teams and both boys and girls AAU and Bantam basketball teams. Brent serves on the executive committee of the youth football league in his area and has served on the executive committee of his area’s high school football booster club. Brent sponsors boys and girls who compete in high school and club sports, including lacrosse, soccer, football, basketball, wrestling, tennis, gymnastics, cheer, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to hire a personal injury attorney?

Hiring a personal injury attorney does not cost you anything up front. Instead, personal injury attorneys are paid a percentage of your settlement funds when the claim is paid. This type of fee arrangement is called a contingency fee - the attorney fee is contingent on your attorney obtaining a recovery for you. You owe your attorney nothing if your attorney cannot obtain a settlement for you.

How much is my personal injury case worth?

The value of a personal injury case is based on the negligence of the parties, the nature and extent of injuries, the amount of medical bills incurred to treat injuries, and the impact the injury has on the injured person’s life. Generally speaking, damages are divided into two categories: economic damages and non-economic damages. Economic damages are damages that you can calculate like medical bills and lost wages. Non-economic damages are intangible damages that are difficult to calculate like pain and suffering, scarring, permanent disfigurement, permanent injury, emotional distress and the like. Other factors that impact case value include the amount of insurance available, the presence of pre-existing injuries, and comparative fault. An attorney can help you value your claim so you know you are getting every penny you deserve.

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim?

A statute of limitation is a law that sets a deadline for filing a lawsuit. The deadline is extended if a person is injured when a child. Call us to find out the deadline for your case.

How long will it take to settle my personal injury case?

The time it takes to settle a personal injury case depends on how long it takes for your injures to resolve. If you have minor injuries and a short recovery then your case will settle sooner than if you have severe injuries with a long treatment plan. When you settle your claim it is final and you cannot reopen the case to get more money if you end up having additional treatment. We want to ensure that all medical bills are covered by the settlement so we wait until a client’s doctor releases them from care before we settle a client’s case.

An Attorney Will Maximize the Value of Your Claim

An attorney can get you more money in your pocket by investigating and exploring insurance coverage available to compensate you for your injuries, recommending health care providers who diagnose and treat common accident injuries, and negotiating discounts with health insurers who seek subrogation.
